Rescheduled Cleanup Event With Southwest Airlines

This is a makeup event originally scheduled for April 26. Be sure to refer to the Zone Map for assigned areas.

Thank you for registering for the Earth Day Community Volunteer Project.  Over 150 Employees from Southwest Airlines will be putting their Heart in action volunteering at Bachman Lake Park making seed balls, mulching the tree beds and picking up trash!

You are being provided a ticket with a QR code for you to bring with you in your phone/device or in print. This will be scanned at the event to register your attendance.

Organization and Activity: Friends of Bachman Lake is a volunteer organization that helps support, protect and advocate for a beautiful and safe Bachman Lake Park that community members can enjoy. Volunteers will spread mulch around the trees and clean up the park.  In addition, the Student Conservation Association will be facilitating a fun event making wildflower seed balls and Madeline Bracken (@theTrashyTexan) will be inspiring us on her goal to pick 1 million pieces of trash!

We have been asked to make sure to complete the mulching, so this should be a priority.  If you can’t help with mulching, there will be trash picker-uppers and trash bags help with clean-up.

Date/Time:  Tuesday, May 2nd from 9am - 12pm

Arrival: After parking please head to the welcome tent (red stars on the map) for a quick welcome and safety orientation.  Parking locations are noted on the map.  If you are with the Legal Department go to the tent on the  South shore, all other groups head to the tent on the North shore.

What to Bring/Wear:

• Bring a water bottle and gardening gloves.
• Wear your SWA volunteer t-shirt, close-toed shoes, and comfortable clothing that can get dirty.

Locations: There will be two main work areas to best spread out the teams and make the biggest positive impact.  The south shoreline will be worked by the Legal team and all other departments will work the north shoreline.   The red stars on the attached map show the locations of the welcome tents.

  • Parking available at Rowing Club and along Shorecrest Dr
  • Trash pick-up along work areas 7-12 and mulching in work area 7

  • Parking available at the Pavilion and restrooms at the Rec Center
  • Trash pick-up along work areas 1-6 and mulching in work area 5&6
