Neighbors in the Know October 2020
This month we invited the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) and the National Parks Service to provide an update on a proposed area study for the Bachman Lake region that could mean great improvements for the community. The initiative is a people-first effort that will enlist the community as a key stakeholder.
Neighbors in the Know - September 14, 2020
Neighborhood advocates get together to talk about happenings around their neck of the woods. In particular, what's happening around the DART Green Line station at Walnut Hill and Denton Drive, along with points eastward. There is also a conversation about the tornado damaged shopping center at Walnut Hill and Marsh Lanes and an update on what's happening with the damaged schools at Walnut Hill Lane and Midway Road – Thomas Jefferson High School and Walnut Hill Elementary.
No North Entrance
Dallas Love Field (DAL) continues its pursuit of a north entrance to the airport despite growing questions about the viability of choices vs. those that exist closer to the original entrance along Mockingbird Lane. Most insulting to the long-neglected residents of Northwest Dallas is the fact that some options, such as a bridge over Bachman Lake, put cars over people, corporate development over housing, and are ruinous to the quality of life of our underserved community.
Northwest Highway & Webb Chapel Danger
Northwest Highway is a barrier to safe passage for residents surrounding Bachman Lake Park. The only pedestrian crossing over the lake, the Webb Chapel Bridge, happens to be one of the most dangerous intersections in the area. Here you can see why. Friends of Bachman Lake has raised the issue with officials to improve not only this intersection and crossing, but to reimagine Northwest Highway as a safe passage to Bachman Lake Park. This should include a pedestrian bridge over the roadway to the park and a slowing down of vehicular speeds through creative designs while allowing traffic to flow. Wouldn't it be great for this bridge to be pedestrian only or at least secured with proper separation between people and cars & trucks?
