“May is the month of expectation, the month of wishes, the month of hope.” — Emily Brontë
Laying It All Down
Volunteers at the Bachman Greenbelt helped lay down flexible irrigation tubing in April. Some clever minds devised a plan to irrigate a new planting area at the Greenbelt using gravity!
Thank you all!

Making "Census" Of Our Surroundings
In late April, hundreds of cities across the globe competed to see who could make the most iNaturalist observations for the CITY NATURE CHALLENGE!
In our area, participants helped bring up Dallas' species count by scooping up and photographing the tiny creatures in our pond and more using the iNaturalist app! The event was hosted in partnership with the FIFA World Cup Organizing Committee.
Watch for this event when it comes by again! By participating in the City Nature Challenge, not only do you learn more about your local nature, but you can also make your city a better place by spotting species population trends.

We've Always Got Friends To Thank
A special thanks to St. Mark's troop 730 for prepping irrigation lines and helping to pick up trash. This helped set up the irrigation line installation that will work wonders for new plantings at the Greenbelt.
Also, thanks to volunteers at Southwest Airlines, Earth Day was a great way to keep the focus on being constant caretakers of our greenspaces.
And with support from Greenspace Dallas, let's not forget the great work of volunteers from AT&T who helped plant nearly 2.000 native plants in the meadow at Bachman Greenbelt! These plants will look beautiful and support native pollinators for years to come! It’s exciting to see so many improvements in the Greenbelt!
Volunteers from St. Mark's, AT&T and Southwest Airlines have been consistent partners and we're ever so grateful.

Water, Water Everywhere
The recent reopening of the Bachman Lake Dam and Trail was reason enough to celebrate and feel positive about the future.
Read a recent article from Mimi Perez at Candysdirt.com about the Dam reopening and what it means to the community.
More good news: Finally, after exhaustive repairs to the HVAC system at the Bachman Lake indoor pool, the facility has reopened, just in time for the summer season. There were lots of tests and a few setbacks, but a key component of summer recreation is back!

Rails to Trails: Can You Get Around Dallas Without A Car?
Sure, you can! This blog post from the Dallas Bicycle Coalition is worth going back to as a reminder that support for better bike paths and pedestrian crossings can reduce our dependency on motor vehicles when it comes to recreational exploration around our city.
A New Trail Plus A 'Metal Bird' Watch Courtesy Of Love Field
Amid the celebration surrounding the opening of the Lemmon Avenue Trail, there was another cause for excitement, especially for those who love to plane watch. The Love Field aircraft observation area is now open. It offers plane enthusiasts an opportunity to get up close to aircraft movements (from a safe distance of course) and view takeoffs and landings from a vantage point few locals have ever seen. There is a shaded deck with a timeline that depicts the history of Love Field and key milestones. If you want to get even closer, pedestals with binoculars are available. Come see for yourself: 8329 Lemmon Avenue Dallas, TX 75235.
