Mighty Minds Needed!

Since 2019, Friends of Bachman Lake has become a driving force for positive change in Northwest Dallas. In just seven years, we have made a tremendous difference: We have kept Bachman Lake from being drained, ensured that Love Field Airport did not build a north entrance into the park, advocated for funding a study to connect Bachman Lake Trail to the Campion Trail, and transformed the Bachman Creek Greenbelt into an urban oasis with footpaths, bridges, and new plantings.

We are always on the lookout for mighty minds to join our Board of Directors as volunteers who can navigate the politics of city issues, help advocate for our park, plan events, raise funds, and ensure the safety, cleanliness, and vibrancy of Bachman Lake Park and its surrounding communities.

Our board meets on the second Thursday of each month at noon for a one-hour online session. We also conduct occasional in-person meetings at On Rotation Brewery & Kitchen to discuss goals, evaluate our accomplishments, and brainstorm ideas for future success.

We are seeking individuals with strengths in event planning and volunteer coordination, as well as individuals with a talent for business outreach and partnership development, to help us engage companies and raise funds for our efforts.

If you or someone you know would like to volunteer to become a board member of Friends of Bachman Lake, please contact us at info@friendsofbachmanlake.org to arrange a time to meet at On Rotation Brewery & Kitchen and start the conversation. We are proud of everything we have accomplished, but there is more work ahead of us to make Bachman Lake Park the true gem of Northwest Dallas!

North Texas Giving Day Success!

Because of your incredible generosity on North Texas Giving Day, Friends of Bachman Lake raised critical support to keep our park clean, safe, and vibrant for everyone. We received over $8,000!

Whether you donated, shared our posts, or cheered us on from the trail, you made a real impact. Every dollar stays right here in our community—funding trail maintenance, lake preservation, tree plantings, and community events that keep Bachman Lake the gem of Northwest Dallas.

Why your support matters:

  • Preserving Green Space: Keeping the park clean, accessible, and healthy for families, runners, cyclists, and wildlife.

  • Building Community: Supporting park improvements and local events that bring neighbors together.

  • Advocating for the Lake: Giving our community a strong voice in future park enhancements.

We are so grateful for your passion and commitment to our shared backyard.

Thank you for showing up for Bachman Lake!

Community stewardship often begins with one person paying close attention, documenting what they see and continuing to ask for solutions. At Bachman Lake Park, Waymond Young has been doing exactly that.

An email exchange following Dallas District 6’s 2026 Budget Town Hall shows how Waymond brought a detailed list of park concerns to city officials, supported those concerns with dates, locations, service information, photos and video, and helped prompt follow-up from the Friends of Bachman Lake and the Dallas Park and Recreation Department.

Monarch migration? Bird migration?

It was a long hot summer and with cooler weather making its way to us, there's no need to avoid the heat by staying indoors. Head out to the Greenbelt. This is the time of the year that birds and Monarch butterflies are migrating and we would appreciate your help in capturing the creatures of fall.

We now have our own iNaturalist project so you can download the app and join the group!

New Campion Trail Phase Complete

Construction of Phase 1B of the Campion Trail project in Irving is now complete. The 1.8-mile segment of trail runs one mile past State Highway 183 along the Elm Fork of the Trinity River. This newest segment, which runs along Frazier Dam, is crucial as it connects Irving's trail to Dallas's trail system.

Why is this important to the Bachman Lake area? In support of efforts like the Bachman Area Plan, we advocate for the connection between the Bachman Lake Trail to several area trails and a Campion Trail connection is key to these efforts.

You might recall a few months ago that IEA Inc., a civil and structural engineering firm, was been selected by Dallas County for a feasibility study connecting Bachman Lake Trail to the Campion Trail. Doing so would open up access from the Lemmon Avenue (Airport) trail through the Bachman Trail and to the Campion Trail.

With its north-south trajectory, the Campion Trail is poised to offer 22 miles through diverse terrain and serve as a key trail corridor connecting all the way to the downtown area.

The Campion Trail project is progressing through several phases, with specific timelines for completion:

  • Elm Fork (north) 8.5 miles Open

  • West Fork (south) 6.5 miles Open

  • Unification Phase 1A 0.9 mile Completed December 2023

  • Unification Phase 1B 1.8 miles Just Completed

  • Unification Phase 2 Final connector Not yet started Late 2027

  • Full 22-mile system — In progress End of 2028

Overall Completion

The entire 22-mile master-planned greenbelt is now targeted for completion by the end of 2028. This timeline reflects the ongoing efforts to unify the trail system and enhance connectivity within the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area.
