The Dallas Trails Coalition (DTC) is an informal group made up of the leaders of friends groups that help with the various trails in Dallas. Jeff Kitner helped start the group over 3 years ago and we’ve all appreciated the collaboration and sharing of knowledge.
Represented in the DTC are the following trail groups: Katy, Northaven, Sopac, Trinity Strand, Bachman, Coombs, White Rock Creek, Santa Fe, Preston Ridge, Marni Kaner, and Lake Highlands. In addition, Bike DFW, the Dallas Bicycle Coalition, The Loop, and City of Dallas Transportation and Trails departments are always present. Once a quarter we get together for lunch and to share updates.
This last meeting we learned that striping of trails should happen periodically and so we requested that this be done for Bachman. We are also going to participate in the Bike DFW repair program and facilitate an event in the fall. Our ears are always open as we look at how other groups handle fundraising, from the Valentine cling decals on Northaven to the Katy Trail’s amazing 5K.
It was inspiring to hear how we are all of the same mind that the privet needs to go for the safety of walkers and that prairie restoration / native plants are happening throughout the City!
Art is also a theme and we asked Northaven and Santa Fe about their murals in the hopes of getting a murals installed at the Lemmon Ave and Webb Chapel bridges.
