“It’s not how much we give but how much love we put into giving.” – Mother Theresa
A special Holiday edition
"Happy holiday, happy holiday
While the merry bells keep ringing
May your ev'ry wish come true..."
Irving Berlin wrote "Happy Holiday" for the 1942 film, 'Holiday Inn.' The film starred Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire and featured multiple songs from Berlin, including the world-famous "White Christmas."
We are now at "Peak Holiday", tying up all the loose ends into neat little bows, placing our good will and cheer in packages for others to receive. We hope this is a happy time for you, realizing that each year can be filled with triumphs as well as challenges and loss. Wherever you find yourself this time of year, we wish you peace and comfort and bright days ahead.
And now the news:
New T-Shirt design is available!

Our popular Bachman Lake T-Shirts featuring a lake silhoutte and playful lettering have a new companion. A refreshed design for 2026 themed "Bachman Lake Life" is now available for donations of $20 or more via a special link on the website.
The new shirts, in a pale blue hue, depict a circular design showing life around Bachman Lake with a prominent skater, joggers and a cyclist enjoying familiar activities at the lake. The upper back of the shirt features the Friends of Bachman Lake logo.
Though in limited supply, the original design will be available until the stock runs out. You can order up to 4 shirts at a time, one shirt for each $20 donation. Be sure to include an email or other contact so we can arrange for a time and place for you to pick up your shirt.
Even if you're all wrapped up for this year's holidays, these shirts make great year-round gifts. More importantly, your donations help us continue the work needed to keep the lake and greenbelt areas clean, accessible and enjoyable. Thank you!

Lemmon Avenue artwork temporarily removed
First you saw it; then you didn't! The recent art installations along the Lemmon Avenue Trail across from Love Field needed a little bit of a height adjustment so they've been temporarily removed. It was determined that the concrete pedestal that the sculptures were anchored to were a bit too shallow and created a potential safety hazard.
The Dallas Office of Arts & Culture is working to raise the concrete pedestal so that the installation will be safer to walk around. We'll provide an updated timeframe when the information becomes available.
Just remember, it's near an airport so we shouldn't be surprised when things take flight, right? It's just that stumbling over a concrete pedestal isn't the kind of trip you want to take, airport or no airport.
Stay safe everyone!

"Photos with Santa" event was picture perfect
For the second consecutive year, Bachman Lake was paid a visit from Santa Claus. Area children lined up to write a letter to Jolly ol' Saint Nick, enjoy some candy and present their wishes to Santa himself.
Friends of Bachman Lake, Dallas Park and Recreation, along with District 6 Council Member Laura Cadena, helped coordinate the setup at the pavilion that featured giveaways and other treats. It was a treat itself watching joyful adults set up the perfect pics with Santa for their little loved ones.
With another successful event under the tree, plans to make this annual treat an even better experience are already being discussed.

Zoning in: Will City reforms attract good development or strain old neighborhoods?
department is in the middle of a zoning reform initiative that, in its words, looks to "align City code with the realities of today and ensure it supports the kind of future Dallas wants to create." The department has collected a series of public comments and has posted them online.
Friends of Bachman Lake attended a recent public review of the Zoning Reform presentation and asked questions about areas of concern and how designating a zone commercial/light industrial, for example, might prevent better use of an area in need of a mix of housing and businesses.

Some connections are happening, others remain unfulfilled
If you are wondering what is going on here, the incomplete section is where QuikTrip is supposed to add a trailhead. Nine years ago, the City ceded park land for this project in return for a trailhead. We understand that the contract is stuck with the City Attorney’s office, so we have escalated to see if we can help push this along.
Meanwhile, connections continue to be made along the Bachman Greenbelt, like this great looking bridge, thanks to the efforts of Eagle Scouts at St. Mark's School of Texas.
Thank you!

Next Meet and Greet in January
Because our next 4th Wednesday gathering falls on Christmas Eve, we'll be skipping the next event and will resume in 2026!
Let's meet at On Rotation Brewery and Kitchen to meet over your favorite beverage and get to know each other! This is a purely social event that gives you just a bit more insight about Friends of Bachman Lake and community efforts to make all our lives better. Let's talk! Our Meet and Greet is scheduled for the 4th Wednesday of each month, weather and schedule permitting.
*Note that times/dates are subject to change. We will issue notices if the event changes or is postponed.
