Forward Dallas - An Update
Back in December, we published a Facebook post about our concerns regarding Map 4 of the Forward Dallas Plan. We were perplexed as to why the City continued to push levels of development in the Bachman Area that were not appropriate - basically designating the area north of the park as Regional Mixed Use. Note that this was the only non-highway location (think 635, 75 and I-35) in Dallas designated as Regional Mixed Use.
We are happy to report that after one-on-one meetings with the Forward Dallas team and an escalation to Councilman Narvaez’s office, the map has been changed and is reflecting Neighborhood Mixed Use. This was the designation we sought because of the population density, proximity to the park, and highly pedestrian community (very few cars owned).
It is not easy to get results, it takes tenacity and constant follow-up. Whew!
On September 25, City Council approved Forward Dallas 2.0, the latest comprehensive land use recommendations which incorporated feedback from community meetings and over 1,600 web map comments from stakeholders. Read the press release.
