National Bike Month - let's make it a 'bike year'

May was National Bike Month. To celebrate, Bike DFW, Preston Hollow Bicycles, and Friends of Bachman Lake hosted the first-ever Bike Bachman! event on May 14th in preparation for National Bike to Work Day, which was May 20th.

More than 50 people attended the two-hour event to have their bicycles repaired, learn more about bicycle safety, and to witness local artist Ebony Lewis create a brand new cycling-theme painting on-site. Dallas Public Library and the Dallas Parks and Recreation Department were also on-hand to discuss and help parents sign their children up for summer programs. The Dallas 311 van was also on-hand to help connect community members to city services. Many thanks go out to the local Bachman area bike shop, Preston Hollow Bicycles, for devoting their time and resources to make this such a widely successful event by providing free safety checks and bike repairs for attendees. Preston Hollow Bicycles is located just north of the Bachman Greenbelt at 850 W Northwest Hwy Ste 1170 FoBL is also very thankful for donations provided for the event by USA Bowl and Target. USA Bowl, located at 10920 Composite Drive in the Bachman Area, provided free games for families to enjoy bowling. Target, located at 9440 Marsh Lane just north of Bachman Lake, supplied water and food items to volunteers and attendees.

The event was a huge success. FoBL looks forward to hosting additional cycling-related events in the future. In fact we are continuing the biking theme by inviting the Bike Planning Commission to present at Neighbors in the Know on June 1st! Sign-up to attend.
