Now more than ever

North Texas Giving Day is September 18

The Bachman Lake Greenbelt is an urban oasis that needs your help. We are looking to raise $20,000 during this campaign. The City's limited resources for privet removal and other maintenance means that the great progress and hard work that has transformed the Bachman Greenbelt requires your help. Let's continue the momentum!

With your help, we can continue to plant native species of trees, ground cover and other vegetation to crowd out the invasive species. The raised funds can also help us hire third-party partners to continue the privet removal and other maintenance.

Our goal is to seed and maintain several acres of the Greenbelt each year. Please help restore this area to a natrual arboretum right in our back yard!

Won't you or your business help?

Thanks to you, we have made Bachman Lake Park a center of activity, an example of community-driven success, and the true recreational jewel of northwest Dallas. Please help us keep it that way and make it even better!

Update: As of September 11, 2025, we have reached 10% of our goal (over $2,000) thanks to your generosity. Let's keep it going!

Pool closure update:

The Dallas Aquatics website provided an update on the Bachman indoor pool closure.

The indoor pool has been closed multiple times over the past 3 years due to serious mechanical and safety issues, not budget related.

  • In late 2023, large ceiling pipes fell into the seating area due to rusted supports.

  • HVAC failures folowed, requiring a full system overhaul.

  • Repairs are underway, with reopening expected in late November.

Dallas Aquatics is eager to resume programming and welcome everyone back to Bachman Indoor Pool.

Have you noticed the artwork on the new Lemmon Avenue trail?

If you needed a clue that the Lemmon Avenue Trail is close to completion, the colorful artwork should be a giveaway. The Aviation Department reports that the trail project is expected to be completed sometime this fall.

In addition to artwork, there are shade structures, new trees and lighting, and a play area mid-trail at the Midway Manor pocket park. The Lemmon Avenue trail's winding sidewalk will have primary and secondary access points and will feature intersection safety improvements as it makes the connection to the Bachman Lake Trail at the crossing between Lemmon and Shorecrest.

This is a very welcome addition to the area, and everyone in the surrounding communities who enjoy biking, walking and jogging will have an interesting cityscape to meander through – part nature, part city in motion.

A group poses in front of the soon to be installed artwork along the Lemmon Avenue Trail. The artwork is of birds in flight which are currently cast in a mould until the installation is complete.

More about the Lemmon Avenue Trail and the Aviation Department's Good Neighbor meeting highlights can be found in Candy's Dirt, an area real estate and local news source with a focus on neighborhood goings on.

As far as the completion of the trail, we certainly look forward to a celebration soon!

Dallas Water Utilities responds to water quality questions

We recently read an opinion piece in the Dallas Morning News, specifically calling out Bachman Lake and expressing concerns about bacteria and other pollutants. In this piece, Dallas rower Jordan Stock asks for stronger regulatory controls that would help make all waterways in Texas safer and even swimmable.

We asked Dallas Water Utilities (DWU) for their perspective. DWU maintains the Bachman Lake Dam (currently being reconstructed) and also regularly tests the water at Bachman and White Rock lakes. Note that they state that neither lake is safe for swimming. Here is their response.
