Super Bowls: Skate Park opens with great fanfare

There were congratulations all around on May 17 but the biggest winners were the enthusiastic skaters and bikers who politely tamed their spooled-up energy until the last speech was given and the ribbon was finally cut. The Bachman Lake Skate Park is now officially open!

The park's opening concluded a decades-long effort coordinated between Skate Parks for Dallas and its founders Dr. Clinton Haley and Nick DiCarlo, Dallas Park and Recreation and the leadership guided by former director Willis Winters and current director John Jenkins, the leadership of Council Member Omar Narvaez, former Council Member Adam Medrano, current Council Member Jesse Moreno, and the strong voices of citizens like District 6 Park Board Member Tim Dickey. There were so many more teams at play, with designing group Team Pain leaving the most visible impression. Their creative work is what you currently see at the intersection of Denton Drive and Webb Chapel Extension, now consistently buzzing with the type of recreational activity on wheels not seen for decades.

If you haven't had the chance to see the park in person, the gates are open until 10pm each day. From inside Bachman Lake Park, you can walk on foot via a trail from the main Bachman Trail just past the Recreation Center and playground.

For some background information, Skate Parks for Dallas takes you through the story of how the Skate Park came to be!
