New Partnership Raises Our Green Profile
We’re honored to share that Friends of Bachman Lake has been selected for the Texan by Nature Conservation Wrangler program, one of the most competitive and respected conservation accelerators in Texas. This recognition celebrates our work restoring the Bachman Greenbelt and reimagining it as a thriving space for both people and nature.

Bachman Lake Dam: A Renewal
Did you know the Bachman Lake Dam was originally built in 1901 to provide water for the City of Dallas? This early infrastructure played a crucial role in the city's development, but as Dallas grew rapidly, the dam’s capacity quickly became insufficient. That led to the construction of the larger White Rock Lake Dam, designed to meet the increasing water demands. Despite being overshadowed by its bigger counterpart, Bachman Dam has retained a unique charm that continues to resonate with the community today.

Dallas Trails Coalition is Clearing the Way to Progress
The Dallas Trails Coalition (DTC) is an informal group made up of the leaders of friends groups that help with the various trails in Dallas. Jeff Kitner helped start the group over 3 years ago and we’ve all appreciated the collaboration and sharing of knowledge. Represented in the DTC are the following trail groups: Katy, Northaven, Sopac, Trinity Strand, Bachman, Coombs, White Rock Creek, Santa Fe, Preston Ridge, Marni Kaner, and Lake Highlands. In addition, Bike DFW, the Dallas Bicycle Coalition, The Loop, and City of Dallas Transportation and Trails departments are always present. Once a quarter we get together for lunch and to share updates. Read the latest.

More Love for the Greenbelt!
Found: 3 tires, 2 chairs,1 chandelier, some pipes, bins ... and bags and bags of trash!
Thank you to the 25+ volunteers that came out to the greenbelt to lend a hand. Thank you as well to Greenspace Dallas for their support and hard work. They hauled out two trailers full of trash. We will have many more clean-ups in the upcoming months, keep an eye out for them in our newsletter and via our social media posts!

iNaturalist App Opens New Worlds
iNaturalist is a popular mobile app that helps people identify plants, animals, and other living organisms while contributing to real scientific research.
Developed through a collaboration between the California Academy of Sciences and National Geographic Society, the app turns everyday nature observations into valuable biodiversity data.Using iNaturalist, users can take photos of plants, insects, birds, fungi, or other organisms they encounter and upload them to the platform.
Find out more and download this very cool app so you can be ready for our upcoming bioblitz on April 25th!

Teach a Child to Swim, Be a Sponsor
Learning to swim is a skill that has benefits far beyond physical health and mental well-being, but it can also save lives.
Swimming is a powerful, all-encompassing activity and Dallas Aquatics believes every child should be allowed the opportunity to learn.
Find out more about opportunities to be a sponsor and help support Teach a Child to Swim scholarships.
