No longer will I have to drive all the way to George Bush and I-35 to get my hotpot fix or buy my favorite soy sauce.
H-Mart is coming to Dallas and better yet, to Koreatown in Northwest Dallas! Koreatown, for those of you that may not know, is a 1.6-mile stretch on Royal Lane, between Luna Road and Harry Hines Boulevard that is home to the largest Korean American population in Texas. If you've driven by that area, you've noticed the many Korean shops and restaurants. Soon there will be a brand new H Mart.
H Mart is the largest Asian supermarket chain in America. Starting in 1982 with a single store in Woodside, Queens, it has grown to include more than 97 stores across the United States. H Mart provides groceries and everyday essential needs as well as upscale products. It is known for its innovative new food halls which are an extension of over 30 years of providing eateries in its stores.
"H Mart is not just a grocery store. H Mart is an experience. They have other stores inside H Mart — not just the grocery, but they typically have banks, shoe stores, hair salons, gadget stores, boba tea. You name it, they've got it inside their stores," said Narvaez, whose district includes Koreatown Dallas.
H-Mart is renovating a two-story building that, upon completion, will have a 70,000 square foot supermarket and retail space on the first floor. The second floor of the building will house office space. H Mart will invest over $28 million in the renovation of the building and improvements to the site such as landscaping, lighting, and outdoor dining space. City Council approved an economic development incentive in the amount of nearly $4 million to help support the project.
Construction is happening now and is expected to complete by the end of 2025!
