Super Bowls: Skate Park opens with great fanfare

Bring on the wheeled wonders! The Bachman Lake Skate Park officially opened in May to much anticipation and celebration. The inaugural cermony was filled with accolades and tributes as restless skaters looked on, teasing their skills while the ribbon cutting took place the way a baseball batter takes practice swings before stepping up to the plate. Soon after the applause died down, the park was buzzing with a full-on skating display that did not disappoint. We think this addition to Bachman Lake Park is going to be popular. Just sayin'.

City Council election results keep things steady for Bachman Lake Park

The City Council races in May for the areas surrounding Bachman Lake Park resulted in more of a "stay the course" path rather than a full upheaval. The key change to our area leadership was the election of first-time candidate Laura Cadena who will replace Omar Narvaez in District 6. Narvaez served the maximum number of terms and was not on the ballot. What does this mean for Bachman Lake moving forward?

Progress Continues on Bachman Lake Dam reconstruction

The Bachman Lake Dam reconstruction is entering the home stretch with major visible changes expected through the rest of the year.

According to the Dallas Water Utilities (DWU) Dam Reconstruction Facebook page, construction crews began armoring the dam at Bachman Lake in May using mats of connected concrete blocks over 900 feet along the center of the earthen embankment. They’re using a four-layer system to strengthen the dam and mitigate erosion.

On the spillway side, by the end of May, crews were preparing to remove the temporary flume (middle channel to move water from the lake through the work site) and replace it with temporary siphons (tubes) that will move the water instead. This will allow the workers to complete the spillway’s new permanent middle structure.

DWU reminds trail users to continue to obey signs and detours along the Bachman Lake Trail for the safety of pedestrians and workers alike. We'll get our trail back soon – and better than ever – so please be patient!

Scouts' wayfinding mission benefits Greenbelt users

A major thank you goes to the 19 Eagle Scout volunteers who installed wayfinding posts along the Greenbelt trail at the end of May. The volunteer energy this year has been off the charts and the progress being made in this area is inspiring others to get involved. We regularly get volunteer sign-ups and the Greenbelt Project is a key area of interest!

We greatly appreciate the community spirit in making this part of Bachman Lake Park an amazing oasis in the city.

Trails offer a tour of the city's heartbeat

Get out of your car and take a walk along one of the multitude of trails in Dallas and you'll suddenly feel a different relationship with the city you call home.

Friends of Bachman Lake was not just formed to protect and enhance the quality of life for parkgoers, walkers, bikers, rowers, swimmers and skaters, but also to make the case for connecting the various parts of the city through trails that will one day include Bachman Lake Park as a recreational hub.
